Using Your Powers of Somatic Awareness for (even more!) Good
As fitness professionals, you have a superpower: you walk around with a special X-ray vision for what’s going on in other people’s bodies. At a glance, you can see what’s connected, what’s right, or what’s painful, and that’s amplified when working with a client over time– you get to know their strengths and challenges on a much deeper level.
Unique Perspective, Unique Opportunity
Most likely, you’re seeing your clients often enough to notice patterns. But there’s also enough distance between sessions to be able to notice changes that are harder to identify in micro day-to-day moments. The opportunity that comes along with this middle-distance role you occupy is that if you’ve built trust with your clients (and I know you have!), then you can reflect back on what you’re seeing in a professional, compassionate way.
Notice that your Wednesday morning regular has been having more and more trouble with her shoulder lately? You can speak to it! Or does your favorite Sunday afternoon client mention that he’s worried about his heart health? You can be a resource for more than just a workout.
What Next?
Recognizing what’s going on with your clients– whether they show you, or tell you outright– is a super key first step. But as someone who cares deeply about health and wellness, what if you want to go a step further? How can you help your clients build their confidence in communicating with their healthcare providers, and uplevel their wellbeing?
That’s why I created this course, Empowering Self-Advocacy in Healthcare, for Profitable Pilates: to dig into the role of healthcare allies (like you!), and the tangible tools needed to offer excellent support.
Whether you just want to get a better handle on talking with your clients about their health, or you’re going to bat for a loved one facing a challenge, this course will help you understand your own superpowers, and how to use them to help others!
