Notes 2 Inspire: What if it Was Easy?

Alright, so I have a lot of projects! There are so many plates spinning sometimes that if I am not careful I will get dizzy just trying to keep up.  And, I know I am not the only one who feels that way. Do you ever wonder how you’ll get it all done?

Over the holiday I took a break from social media, clients and let my devices sit in airplane mode even when I wasn’t on the plane. I wanted time to create, to dream and to let my mind wander. When I do this wandering I get some of my best ideas. Everything around me is so calm I can hear the whispers of future endeavors, projects, and opportunities. Sitting still allows me to see the future more clearly.

Inevitably I come out of this quiet creation time with more ideas and projects than I could possibly complete in a year. As I sift through each one and decide what projects to take on or to set aside for future evaluation I ask myself one question. I look at the project that might be so big it would be easy to say “I can’t do that” or “It’s way too complicated.” Or, “I’m not qualified to do that yet.”  But, instead of letting the negative can’t phrases rush in I ask myself “What if it was easy?” What would have to happen to make this project so easy I couldn’t possibly not do it?

For example, maybe you want to write a book. A book is something that could take so long, some authors take years to write a book. But, how can you make writing a book easier? What other distractions in your life could you get someone else to do so you could have more time to write? What apps could you use to make editing it easier? What tools could you use to write it faster? How could you make writing a book easy?

Or, maybe you want to take a two-week trip through Asia. But, where to go, where to stay, what to see? It’s so many questions that it’s easier to just say “I don’t have time so we’ll go next year.” Or, worse “it’s way too complicated let’s just go to New York instead.” But, you really want this two week trip through Asia. So, what if it were easy to plan the trip? What if there was an awesome tour group you could book and then let them do all the planning and you just show up! How can traveling be easy to do?

As it’s the beginning of the year and you’re excited about new goals and opportunities. Take some time this weekend to ask yourself how you can make them easier to do. In doing this you may find you have friends who can help or you may even find that some projects take less time than you alotted because you didn’t complicate it.

What can you do or not do to make this week easy?
